Dear Reading 1900-1950 readers,
Great news from Reading Sheffield:
We have reached our fundraising target of £12,500 to support the publication of Mary Grover’s new book, Steel City Readers. Based on the memories of our Sheffield interviewees, Steel City Readers is about reading for pleasure in Sheffield between 1925 and 1955.
The money we have raised means that the book will be free for all to download from the internet.
We are so grateful to everyone who has donated, whether a few pounds or a bigger sum, via our Just Giving page (which we will now be closing) or in another way. Your generosity amazes us.
Steel City Readers will be published on 1 June 2023. Paperback copies can be ordered from good bookshops and the free download will be available through Liverpool University Press (www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk). Stay in touch with us through our website (www.readingsheffield.co.uk), Twitter (@readsheffield) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/readsheffield/}.
Thank you, Val Hewson (Chair of Reading Sheffield)
Fantastic news! Congratulations Val and everyone, for raising the money. And super-Congratulations to Mary for writing this very fine book. It is superb that it will be available Open Access (though I am still looking forward to seeing it in embodied paper form!).
Congratulations!!
Brilliant! Look forward to reading it.
That’s great news. I hope you will also remind us on this site when it’s published.
Hello Michelle Ann,
Yes I’ll certainly post again when the book is out circa the start of June – with a link to the free online e-book and to details of the hard copy. – Best Chris.
